August 3rd week

Your 12th Birthday Blady Grass area & around its edges with vines, blackberry , Tuckeroo , Cassia among other usual suspects. The Stony Rd & McKellar Glade also need attention.  I'm hoping to lead you all on A Long March into & around our new Estate from about 10.30 if the weather is march-friendly. 2025 Flanagans Creek In the absence of leadership we will share some self-directed weeding at Flanagans Creek. 2024 Success with Bushcare required Lisa's site needs considerable work tomorrow. Gary's "seawall held up well against the big seas. There are a series of 1.9m tides from tonight. There's more to do at Andrew's Amnesia, a small Lantana chop up the dirt track, protection for our Treefern to be installed & some Lilies to be hunted down. 2023 The monarch of weeds, Madeira Vine .  Now we can be a real Bushcare Group engaged in a never-ending battle with Anredera cordifolia. Its on Lisa's site, probably floated in when the lagoon was at...

Fine Morning With Much To Do  There's likely not enough to do at Flanagans until Sept/Oct  planting time, except for watering, so we're at Hewitts again tomorrow. I'm expecting Alycia to visit and 1 or 2 new members to check us out so it could be a busy morning. And be ready for the media storm as you are displayed on the cover of the August "Flame" Here's what is on offer: Mandy the Fig Wizard has offered 4 more of her "babies" for planting, desperate to avoid a Triffid incident in her own home. I'm thinking  Woodlands Ck .  Cassia & Coolatai also await your attention....and then there's the Stony Rd   Cassia  with pods. Watering is needed at our newest plantings so a trolley & containers would be great. there are still more Tuckeroo with red tape, often indicating a group.  Please cut them off at ground level before "painting" to avoid creating Trip Hazards. Andrew's Amnesia is due a visit. At least 8 of our usual su...

Chance of Showers for Return to Flanagans Three main sites to choose from: Coupe 3 has a lovely collection of Cacti in the north-east corner; about 25 of the little spiky monsters to be dug out & bagged. Our planted area requires careful weeders to extract  Morning Glory , Asparagus & Lantana , especially where close to our little treasures. There's also a regrowth Norfolk Is. Hibiscus to be  dealt with. The North side of Flanagans Ck has quite a bit of  Morning Glory with its big purple flowers on show. Pulling & bagging or scraping & poisoning needed in various spots between the bridge & the shelter shed. There's an evil red flowered spiky thing and Fennel further east & then concentrated  Morning Glory  & Asparagus at the back of the beach.  2024 Planting in our Narrow Strip Some Sandpaper Figs will go into Manifest Destiny. A peculiar Trowel may well appear to place some of these darlings into the ground. We ...

Calling for Aquarians Two very hot days, no rain until at least Thursday, plus Hewitts Creek filled by high tides, means our most recent plantings will appreciate a Day of Aquarians tomorrow, our shaduf system being temporarily too salty. I'm thinking the Dirt Track littlies but also the recent Manifest Destiny vulnerables. The battle vs  Snake Vine No.2  continues along the creek bank past the bend, at Andrew's Amnesia & along the  Dirt Track . Secateurs & patience required.  There is also a bit of sawing work on a fallen trunk & branches south of the  Dirt Track . Fleabane is everywhere but particularly across  Manifest Destiny where its outgrowing the normal weeds!! The  Dirt Track  (very popular today) is hosting a fine display of Bad Passionfruit. Woodlands Ck has  Lantana,   Cassia,   Purple Top , Japanese honeysuckle, Fleabane, Coolatai & Snakey 2   The WARC Zone offers a dubious reward for whoever ...

Bridge down, Ditch dry, Weeds growing, Weather dry.  Hewitts Creek site again (8.30 start) with quite a few tasks waiting: Secateurists come ready to snip Stephania japonica from our shrubs & small trees. Its a native vine temporarily "invading". Common name is Snake Vine No.2. The No.2 is my name for it because we also have Snake Vine No. 1 on site ( Hibbertia scandens )  We need at least 5 snippers along the creek bend, in Manifest Destiny & Andrew's Amnesia . Bridge Doctors Morning Glory and Snake Vine 2 are prospering between the red flowering Melaleucas on the east side of the cycleway. Asparagus fern is getting away along the south side of The Mound. Madeira vine & Coral tree regrowth are off again by the creek in  Manifest Destiny . Watering of recent plantings from both the creeks  is needed given lack of moisture over last 10 days. We have buckets at both creeks. Too many Tuckeroos in some small areas so culling required. I counted ...

I counted 8 different weeds between the bridge & the dirt track...
