Do WEEDS WITHER in WINTER?  A return to the autonomous collective on light duties. Ideal conditions beckon at Hewitts tomorrow; cool, sunny, damp soil, willing weeds.  Options include; Finishing the Bidens & Polygala west of the cycleway Seasoned Weed Aware Random Citizens might begin on the weed encyclopaedia that is developing near the old Condons Corner. A Tuckeroo Hit team needed to pull/cut/paint the invading local both sides of the Dirt track . A crop of Crofton has emerged above the Blady Grass & should be pulled before it flowers. Morning Glory  & Turkey Rhubarb are flaunting themselves along the east edge of the cycleway between 310-330 metre marks. Tall chopper types might like to remove lower fruiting branches of the African Olives in Manifest Destiny.   2025 Bushie knowledge Back to Woodlands Ck edge where some seeding  Coolatai grass has strayed as well as some flood rubble, a few weeds & a deer or two. Deer junior has begun rut...

Hewitts Creek Before A Wet Week The forecast is for showers, so the first few of the following are sites under the trees. Up the dirt track on the south side needs a small team walk through, weeding  Morning glory  other vines & Lantana plus, Nightshades .  Check the surrounding mulch for  Morning glory  runners. Bag it all, don't hang it on the trees. Another team could tour the Old Forest west of cycleway where there's less weeds but a maybe dangerous leaning log up towards the creek bend.  East of the cycleway in the WARC* Zone is pretty good but the forest edge on the beach side is pretty weedy & there's  Lantana to cut back, but not out. Out in the open, Whiskey Grass is seeding. Bag the seed heads west of cycleway first but there's more in a large clump towards the cyclone fence in the WARC Zone. Masses of Bidens in seed up behind McKellar Glade, bags & secateurs best. Bag the seed and the roots. Leave the stems for...

Another Grade A Grey Day at Hewitts Creek  An exciting list of planet-saving tasks. There will be purple petals to pluck, a variety of vines to eviscerate, Whisky Grass harvesting and hardy perennial work on Bidens , morning glory &  Turkey rhubarb . Council is sending a letterbox message to the nearby streets re fallen timber removal, "campfires" & plant damage. Rabbit baiting is not allowed. A chilli/garlic mix in oil is said to have deterrent effect.  2025 Winter Arrived at Flanagans Creek Plenty of variety on offer including partial immersion to fish out the Greens' corflutes up at the bridge. Emu parade beachside, search & kill for treetop morning glory & Moth Vine & yes, some chopping! 2024 Native Planting Conditions Idyllic Start in the area between the back of the beach & the cycleway aiming to remove Crofton , morning glory , Turkey rhubarb, Mother of Millions & again repress Blackberry . We will also have some planters putti...

Off to Flanagans  The Rabbit Proof Fence needs to become reality down there. Big Ears has been munching every species we put in, including the ones the book says he doesn't eat. So if you happen to have a stick collection. I'm also trialing dead Asparagus as a crown of thorns draped over each fence. Lantana , Asparagus & Morning Glory will be available if you prefer to weed/chop and there is also the north side of the creek.  2025 Down with the peasants  Return to the Blady Grass & surrounds to finish last week's good work & move under the trees if drizzle arrives. I would like a group to do a sweep along our western edge where we've put in lots of work prior to the Survey. That is, from the Dirt track across to the Ditch , weeding, & freeing our previous plantings.  This will inevitably bring us to the infamous " Andrew's Amnesia " site, rich in unfulfilled promise/s. Other missions could be Coolatai extraction up the track, Whisky Gras...

Probable rain (50% likely for 1 or 2mm) Start with  Morning Glory  and Turkey rhubarb near the bridge and along the cycleway  The Ditch bridge is in need of repairs.  Manifest Destiny spread cardboard and do the usual weeding. Watch where you tread in this area because of the Hibbertia scandens . Cassia is flowering at the moment, bag the flowers and the roots and place the rest under foot, not in heaps.  General Maintenance: be on the lookout for seedlings and stake them. Weeds in flower  Polygala  and fleabane in the  Blady Grass  and south. Again, bag the flowers and the roots and place the rest under foot, not in heaps.  A weed in seed Erharther wikipedia.org/../Ehrharta_erecta   See you at 9am with raincoats and gumboots.  2025 Schadenfreude The  Stony Road has rapidly expanding Lantana , Crofton & Polygala ,    ..plus seeding Whisky Grass that needs bagging. The north edge of the Blady Grass has...
