Fine Morning With Much To Do  There's likely not enough to do at Flanagans until Sept/Oct  planting time, except for watering, so we're at Hewitts again tomorrow. I'm expecting Alycia to visit and 1 or 2 new members to check us out so it could be a busy morning. And be ready for the media storm as you are displayed on the cover of the August "Flame" Here's what is on offer: Mandy the Fig Wizard has offered 4 more of her "babies" for planting, desperate to avoid a Triffid incident in her own home. I'm thinking  Woodlands Ck .  Cassia & Coolatai also await your attention....and then there's the Stony Rd   Cassia  with pods. Watering is needed at our newest plantings so a trolley & containers would be great. there are still more Tuckeroo with red tape, often indicating a group.  Please cut them off at ground level before "painting" to avoid creating Trip Hazards. Andrew's Amnesia is due a visit. At least 8 of our usual su...

Photo op  The east edge of the forest has lots of weeds if you run through the 50+ Tuckeroos .  A general sweep across and just beyond our current west edge (ie both sides of the dirt track beyond our Bushcare sign ) where there's Passionfruit ,  Morning Glory , some Coolatai and Cassia pods to be removed, but NOT  Lantana  at this stage. If there's time & ingenuity we might also attempt more solid protection for the Banksia deer victims on the Stony Road .  To anyone who's been involved in the green corridor campaign; be at the bridge in your finest Bushie gear for a Photo op.  2025 More to do More tree damage requiring Saws & Choppers, more deer damage repair (or at least a check of last week's victims), further weed work in  Manifest Destiny .  2024 Mustn't Grizzle about Drizzle There are a couple of above water sites in mind where gumboots will only be optional. there's a big fallen over Banksia at the back of Steve's Beac...

May 5th week

2023 Planting We have a full tray to plant along or near the Stony Rd and/or in Manifest Destiny . Some tubestock may have to wait a week or so. We need to clear more planting space at Manifest Destiny by removing cardboard We need to chop more Cassia at both sites. Transplant some Sandpaper Figs from the ditch to Manifest Destiny central. Weather should be cool, sunny with a bit of wind. 3 of the 5 activities will need bags.  Hopefully some adventurous soul will take home some produce to attempt the following: According to Diego Bonetto's "EAT WEEDS" , Cobblers Pegs or Bidens pilosa can be distilled in gin or used in a salsa verde or pesto, in pasta sauce, stir fries or noodle salad. "The flavour is strong & complex, at first resin & grass but then at the back palate, has sage & oregano tones".  He, Diego, has a herbalist friend who drinks a daily anti-bacterial tea brewed from fresh & dried leaves of Bidens pilosa. And its always available...
