May 4th week

High Tides The deluge last Thursday night washed the sand out of Hewitts Creek so the lagoon is now 2 metres lower than it was. That may mean the tidal surge will re-flood areas of Manifest Destiny & Lisa's Site . Won't know until we get there tomorrow but as all the low parts of our site were wet on Friday afternoon & Woodlands Creek was still 30 metres wide we'll have to make most of it up as we go tomorrow. Inspecting back of beach will be the first task. The safest bet is to start along the higher & drier Western Edge areas, like Stony Rd , behind the Blady Grass, up the dirt track & across to Andrews Amnesia. Secateurs & bags best for these areas. Brave souls can skirt Lake Zaremba and trust Bruce's rehabilitation of the Gillette Bridge over the Ditch because Madeira Vine is threatening over by the creek &  Lisa's Site needs further work. Weed Aware Random Citizens (WARCs) armed with secateurs could bag lots of Biden seeds & a ...

Has Winter Arrived? We are at Flanagans Creek this week Plenty of variety on offer including partial immersion to fish out the Greens' corflutes up at the bridge. Emu parade beachside, search & kill for treetop morning glory & Moth Vine & yes, some chopping! 2024 Native Planting Conditions Idyllic Start in the area between the back of the beach & the cycleway aiming to remove Crofton , morning glory , Turkey rhubarb, Mother of Millions & again repress Blackberry . We will also have some planters putting in Coastal Spinifex , Lomandra , Myoporum , Breynia , Westringia & some Correa .  We need the liberation of beach Crinums while we plant. Condons Corner , Steves Beach & some spaces in the New Forest . 2023 New Survey Those areas into which we have not recently been went feral in our absence.  Lisa's Littoral, Manifest Destiny & Andrew's Abomination were each disappearing under a weed wave that will gladden the blades of the Choppers, e...

Down with the peasants Return to the Blady Grass & surrounds to finish last week's good work & move under the trees if drizzle arrives. I would like a group to do a sweep along our western edge where we've put in lots of work prior to the Survey. That is, from the Dirt track across to the Ditch , weeding, & freeing our previous plantings.  This will inevitably bring us to the infamous " Andrew's Amnesia " Site, rich in unfulfilled promise/s. Other missions could be Coolatai extraction up the track, Whisky Grass de-seeding, removing useful timber from Hewitts Creek, fun with Honeysuckle .  This is Coolatai 2024 Jobs to do in the wet Weeding along the Cycleway Edge and/or Beach & Lagoon Edge Clean -Up. Gumbies & Web Footed Choppers could monster a new patch of Lantana & Crofton on the west edge of our planted area. stay on the path to avoid a bath if you stick to the beach you won't see a leech 2023 Cool The temperature will feel li...

Schadenfreude The  Stony Road has rapidly expanding Lantana , Crofton & Polygala ,    ..plus seeding Whisky Grass that needs bagging. The north edge of the Blady Grass has  Morning Glory , Passionfruit &  Lantana rampant. There is still some treated timber & rubbish to be removed from the back of the beach and its time to revisit Andrew's Amnesia before our plantings disappear under  Morning Glory . 2024 Soggy, soggy, soggy High ground and inspiration from previous years. 2023 Weeding a dream Condons Corner & the South-East Corner will be priorities and the Polygala / Cassia / Lantana front between the Cycleway & Stony Road should be dry underfoot & ripe for the ripping. Polygala Vulgaris 2022 Vine Identification The morning forecast suggests that we'll have ideal conditions for a cool weed of the drier parts of the site. Bags & Secateurs probably best tomorrow as Morning Glory rampant and Cape Ivy also on the march...
