Priorities:

  • Montbretia - look for the orange flowers
  • Lilies are flowering, get flowers before they seed, bulbs where you can.
  • McKellar Glade is out of control - get Polygala now in purple and white flower
  • Big Fleabanes along the Cycleway in grassy area - need to bag seeds & flowers
  • Turkey Rhubarb flourishing around three small sandpaper figs west of the Cycleway, 40m south of the bridge.

August 4th week

Back To Flanagans The low areas at Hewitts Crk are still under water & there is mud elsewhere. Flanagans will be considerably drier with its sand base. Choppers & Morning Glory gleaners can proceed to cleanse more of Coupe 2 while Asparagites continue their slow push south. Judging by McCauleys Beach there may also be some beach cleaning required. We'll bring extra bags.  Weed of the week Ehrharta erecta The species has been used for birdseed, and in ecological restoration such as dune stabilization. However, it has become an invasive weed in many parts of the world. It flowers and seeds throughout the year, and its seeds germinate rapidly, forming new plants in only a few weeks. This weed is so widespread that all we can do is remove the visible seeds and clear away any of it that is in competion with native plants. 2024 Planting tomorrow  Most of the sites will be towards Woodlands Ck where salt water isn't a problem so if we all bring a watering can/bottle refills...

May 4th week

High Tides The deluge last Thursday night washed the sand out of Hewitts Creek so the lagoon is now 2 metres lower than it was. That may mean the tidal surge will re-flood areas of Manifest Destiny & Lisa's Site . Won't know until we get there tomorrow but as all the low parts of our site were wet on Friday afternoon & Woodlands Creek was still 30 metres wide we'll have to make most of it up as we go tomorrow. Inspecting back of beach will be the first task. The safest bet is to start along the higher & drier Western Edge areas, like Stony Rd , behind the Blady Grass, up the dirt track & across to Andrews Amnesia. Secateurs & bags best for these areas. Brave souls can skirt Lake Zaremba and trust Bruce's rehabilitation of the Gillette Bridge over the Ditch because Madeira Vine is threatening over by the creek &  Lisa's Site needs further work.
