June 3rd week
Up the Coast
Time for a change of scenery further north....at Flanagans Creek.
Among the almost tropical activities on offer will be:
- chopping up dead lantana & preparing a planting site (towards the creek end)
- continued Morning Glory & Turkey removal from Lomandras & bagging the Morning Glory
- attacks on the 2 Acacia saligna (Western Australian weed wattles) either by frilling & poison or by battery chainsaw, if that's feasible.
- more Morning Glory ground level roll ups & bagging
- bag the berries & dig it out.....yes, the Asparagi await.
A brave soul might extract the mystery big black bag from under the Saltbush?
Please bring your big bags with you & I'll bring extras to leave for the WCC pick up.
We'll return to the site on 30/6 so these next 2 hits could have quite a visual impact on Coupe 1 (the north most third).
2024 Big surf hits the beach
The line where the beach meets the bush may need a clean-up.
Previous year's work lists should be revisited.
2023 Weed War
On the North-West Front (Andrew's Mistake) we encounter the Alliance of Evil, & the Southern Front (Woodlands Ck) the Honeysuckle Menace.
One day, when Hewitts Ck lagoon has drained, we may even crest the mound, cross the ditch & advance into Lisa's site.
The idea is to use this time of diminished growth to defeat/set back our enemy species before Spring encourages them to break out.
Secateurs, bags & a few choppers will be required. Conditions forecast to be sunny, cool, breezy.
There may be a nice job available cutting off millions of Privet seeds,
2022 Attacks
Four weeding sites. And, for those who wish to forge a lasting track through Lisa's site, or attack fallen timber with their weapons of choice.
Weeders will need to bag Coolatai Grass seed heads & whole Mother of Millions plants.
We have a couple of edges along the forested part of the Cycleway where a more forbidding border should help conserve the better areas of our site so I'm suggesting we divide some of our Lomandras and plant out the off-cuts. I hope that will give quicker & better results than baby Lomandras from the Botanical Gardens. I've also seen a bright shelter & nesting idea for dead/fallen timber which we could use on our big African Olives & Privets.
