2026 Woodlands Crk plan fail

Plans for this week had to be moved to the second week. Slight problem of a council contractor spraying upwind of the place where we all planned to work.

Clean up Australia happened first and then we did some bushcare, mostly along the cycleway.

 

2025 Clean up Australia

A photo opportunity for the next Flame edition, some bushcare & then some Clean Up Australia, so quite a busy session.

Should the rain hold off, flowering Lilies are the first priority. Flowering Cassias at Woodlands Ck can be removed so long as we can suitably relocate the shaduf & then it's over to the back of the Blady Grass for a weed salad or over to Manifest Destiny for attack on various regrowths.

Correct PPE or you could find yourself hidden at the back among the Talls.

2024 Open area weeding

Cool, grey & 21 degrees means we can attack Morning Glory on Steve's Beach, Turkey Rhubarb at Condons Corner, Woodlands Ck Coolatai grass & even Mother of Millions at the firepit in ideal conditions.
Bags & secateurs will be necessary as a lot of what we reap needs to go off site. 

More bending & stretching than chopping but poisoners will get their chance too.

2023 Clean Up Oz Campaign. 

That usually takes up the first hour, depending on numbers & ambition, after which the predicted heat should send us to the shade of Manifest Destiny for a cool weed. Water bottles & wide brim hats are de rigeur.

Today was called off after rain for days. Patchy heavy rain and more to come.

Why Would Anyone Plan?   We are switching tomorrow's work action to Flanagans Ck, or Tingara Park as its officially known. Forecast is for some possible light morning showers, so rain gear advisable.  At Flanagans tomorrow we'll continue to weed our way south. There may be a rubbish patrol along the back of the beach. I'll bring extra bags again. Choppers /sawyers could cut some of last weeks cuttings into more mulch friendly sizes. 2024 A Diminished Thing Tomorrow begins a new era for our group with our work restricted to areas west of the cycleway. I will produce a full explanation of these changes later in the week. A reminder that our 10th Annual Foundation Picnic is set for Monday 26th August. The waves & tides of the last week have dammed Hewitts Creek & filled it, the shoreline & beyond with sea-wrack so removal of plastic, treated timber & general rubbish will be first task tomorrow. August 5th week

Springing back  We have inserted an experimental Swamp Banksia into Manifest Destiny and there are still 4 or 5 other sapling trees needing protection so if anyone has some spare garden stakes/posts, we still have enough wire to fence them.  On offer: Velcro plant has reappeared beside cycleway, up near the bend creek edge & back of beach have junk deposits from our throw-away society some minor Turkey Rhubarb, Asparagus & Passionfruit growth along creek edge The full weed range on offer in Manifest Destiny with conditions ideal for extraction & some fallen timber cutting up for the sawyers a check along Stony Road & Woodlands Ck   2022   There has been further Deer damage, done this time to three native Hibiscus - they need a protective guard- and we lost an Illawarra Flame and a Bleeding Heart just across the ditch on Lisa's Site. Cut them off below damage and they may re-shoot.

July 3rd week

 Bushie Change of Routine We will swap sites, with next week being at Flanagans & tomorrow at Hewitts. This may also give our Flanagans Bowerbird time to repair his bower which was a bit crushed by a fallen branch. I've watered there a couple of times this last week & our babies are all doing well. Offerings for tomorrow: trim most branches from the fallen Banksia on the dirt track in the hope that the tree can survive horizontally repair/rescue/protect a line of deer victims along our track at the creek bend & check our existing protections creek level has dropped so we can get onto Lisa's site , remove rubbish, drag flood wrack off Crinums & bag any Madeira remove the big Asparagus & lay the rest of the cardboard in Manifest Destiny & continue weeding as per last week fish bike out of creek near the bridge.
