Back To Flanagans

We will return to our new project a week early for tomorrow's session.
Depending on numbers we may have up to 8 separate activities going, including:

  • rubbish collection, especially around beach side of Bay1
  • cut & poison Asparagus Fern in our already cleared area. Pile non-regrowth fronds.
  • roll up more MG runners & bag
  • cut up fallen timber....maybe a "nest" or two beginning
  • careful pull down & bag dead MG from Boobiallas, without damaging host trees
  • chop MG, Asparagus & Lantana along creek edge, outside log fence. Hang, bag & pile cuttings as required. There is some wire in the ground here to either pull out or cut off
  • attack Big Lantana, about 20m south of fence corner. Need to protect small Banksias close by.

2024 Mad dogs

Work in the shade & or breeze which means forest both sides of Cycleway & up around the creek bend. An intrepid worker may reach the Woodlands Ck & bucket/shaduf our plantings there.
Lilies, Polygala, Montbretia are still out there for the mad dogs & Englishpersons.

Busy time with the prolific summer growth.

2022 Work list

Weed growth is getting away from us in places. 


Lilies & Montbretia in the open areas will be one target but free-up weeding in the SE Corner, Steve's Beach & Condon's Corner are also priorities. 

The stone road down by Woodland Ck will have a challenging assortment by now as well.

 Likely events As well as the Crofton, Fireweed and Montbretia shooting and flowering, if it rains, even average amount, there will be plenty to do. Turkey Rhubarb will soon flower. 2023 Back to Spring There were a lot of Croftons in flower last week along the Cycleway so it would be good to get them first up. There are also a few small scale weeding jobs waiting, including renewed acquaintance with the Velcro , Asthma & Stonecrop exotics. Choppers and cutters can do some more of each in Manifest Destiny, backed by some painting by a Poisoner. The Ditch may also be close to dry enough for some overhead chopping. Tomorrow is our last 9am start for a while.  Mon Oct 2nd is a Public Holiday, but if you don't get an invite to picnic with your favourite Union, Bushcare will be on from 8.30. August 4th week

Planting tomorrow  Most of the sites will be towards Woodlands Ck where salt water isn't a problem so if we all bring a watering can/bottle refills from the shaduf & big container should be pretty efficient. A track making opportunity is now apparent at the far end of Manifest Destiny so Choppers need not despair. 2023 Just smile & nod like normal  Here's the list Ian asked Ted to publish: several smaller jobs along the cycleway a bit of watering for the Woodlands Ck plantings Ross! there appear to be Lilies emerging hammer in steel posts with chicken wire to protect the Condon Cedars (& take a nice pic to send them).  Splitters!! & continue into Manifest Destiny to weed weeds. there's a little high quality sieve work to be done at the Madeira site 2022 Weed of the week  Lambs Tongue or Ribwort Plantain . May 4th week

Festival of the boot We will plant in various locales while the more Revisionist minded might re-shape Blackberry, Crofton and Lantana at various sites.   One relatively dry site will be among the flowering Cassia along the Stony Road so choppers should be happy. There's still some Polygala to finish nearby and a lot of Morning glory at the back of the Blady Grass area.   Turkey rhubarb tracing on offer at Condons Corner. I also have a few more "nursery items" for our recently chopped zone. 2023 Missive from Macca Aiming to deal with weeds in grassy areas like Coolatai , Polygala & two or three localised issues. 2022 Cycleway upgrade Council said a new stage of the cycleway upgrade is coming soon-ish: from the Tramway Creek causeway to the south end of the Hewitts Creek Bridge.
